First-Ever e-AWD System on a Kia Hybrid
A major highlight of the Kia Seltos Hybrid is the introduction of an electric all-wheel-drive (e-AWD) system making it the first hybrid from Kia globally to offer this technology. The setup includes an additional electric motor mounted on the rear axle, enabling on-demand all-wheel drive. This system is particularly beneficial in low-traction environments such as snow and icy roads, making it well-suited for markets like the U.S.
Powertrain and Performance
The U.S.-spec Seltos Hybrid features a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
An electric motor mounted on the front axle assists the engine, enhancing both efficiency and performance. In markets like South Korea, where Kia already sells the Seltos Hybrid in a front-wheel-drive (FWD) configuration, the powertrain produces:

- 105 PS (104 hp) and 144 Nm from the petrol engine
- 43 hp and 170 Nm from the electric motor
- Combined output: 141 PS (139 hp) and 265 Nm
These figures are expected to remain similar for the U.S.-spec FWD variant.
Efficiency and Features
The hybrid version uses a smaller 38-litre fuel tank, compared to the standard Seltos, but delivers improved efficiency, with fuel economy rated at up to 19.5 km/l in South Korea.
Additionally, the Seltos Hybrid offers vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, allowing it to supply up to 3.52 kW of power at 220V sufficient to run household appliances or outdoor equipment, making it practical for camping or emergency use.
India-Specific Version
For India, Kia is expected to localize the Seltos Hybrid with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, derived from the current Seltos lineup. This engine produces 113 hp and 144 Nm in its conventional form.
However, the advanced e-AWD system is unlikely to be offered in India, primarily due to cost considerations and limited demand in the segment.
